Close to 50 competitors are signed up for the Vancouver Island Racketlon Challenger. The next nearest event is 4,000 km away so folks in the west are excited for their chance to play racketlon locally! About half of the competitors are experienced racketloners while the rest are trying it out for the first time. Favourites include World #48 Evan Mancer and “Canada’s Golden Couple of Racketlon” Damaris & Peter Brix The event is hosted by Panorama Recreation Centre, a lovely public facility that sits on a hillside overlooking the Salish Sea. The centre had to purchase portable badminton courts specifially for the event, but now that they own them hopefully many more racketlons will be played there. Athletes will be treated to massage on Saturday from students of the West Coast College of Massage. $5 for a 15 minute massage – what a deal!. While other parts of Canada are under 10 feet of snow Victorians are enjoying their typical balmy Mediteranean climate and the cherry blossoms are in bloom. Draws are online at fir.tournamentsoftware.com.
