On the weekend of July 6-7, the Ottawa racketlon saw players from a few provinces an some Americans test their skills in four racket sports. Tennis was not contested this time around but pickleball was the third sport, just before squash. Players seems to have appreciated the novelty.
Here are your results: In the A division, many new athletes were entered, which is a good thing since some of the regulars were all attending Pat Laplante’s wedding. The winner is Blake Reinson, a very good squash player who defeated an amazing badminton champ: Austin Flannigan. See you tube…
In the women’s, American Dominic Canale from New-York won her two matches easily and in the finale she defeated Ghislaine Abran, ex-top table tennis player who made a return to play alongside her two sons.
Men’s B was well contested with Darrell Chipp, dominating the squash 21-1 against Justin D’Antonio from New-York in the finale to take the tittle home.
Mixed doubles saw the American pair of D’Antonio/Canale conquer the first place. In Men’s double, Canadian pickleball champs Horatio Pintea and Paul Morrison where too strong for the field. (Horatio is an ex-olympian in table tennis too…).
The over 45 event was close battle between the teammates Morrison and Pintea. Pintea took table tennis and badminton while Morrison won pickleball and squash to win the event.
Finally, in the u-14 category Noah Mikovich captured the gold.
Next tournament will be a big one in Drummondville, Qc on September 21-22. It will be posted on this website by mid-July.
