Eighteen year old Morgan Latremouille of Delta, BC left everyone wondering how he’s managed to master four racquet sports in less time than most of us took to become proficient at one. Latremouille won the Men’s A division at the 5th Annual Pacific Rim Open, and also was the champion in mixed doubles, teaming up with Nicole Bunyan from Victoria, BC. Latremouille upset former champion Peter Brix in the second round and defeated Omar Samad of Waterloo, Ontario 59-48 in the final. The string of local winners in Women’s A remained intact, as Allison Marr won for the third time. Marr and Damaris Brix have taken turns holding the title for the past five years. The 2010 event was the largest to date, with nearly 100 players and a packed house of spectators. Event organizers Dean Gillis and John Miller were again overwhelmed at the popularity of the tournament, and were especially pleased hosting so many out-of-town players. “We never know what to expect heading into the tournament. But every year we have more players and more enthusiasm. It’s our favourite event of the year, and the players tell us the same thing”, said Gillis. The 6th annual Pacific Rim Open will be held October 7-9th, 2011. For more information, please visit: pacificrimopen.com Written by John Miller
