For the first stage of this years’ Multisports Racketlon season, a strong contingent of players from Toronto and Ottawa were on hand to face last year’s champion Jeremy Easterbrook as well as Granby’s racketlon club powerhouses Richard Soucy and Patrick Laplante. In the B division, Mike Wang from Toronto ended up being too strong for the field, this squash specialist even treated himself with a win in tennis against Quebec top 20 player J-F Paradis. As for the A, Brian Eldrige from Ottawa, couldn’t stop Easterbrook in the semis (an injured toe slowing him down in squash) while in the other semis Richard Soucy lost a close one to Pat Laplante +4 (he was up 16-8 in tennis ans Laplante needed 18 for the win…finale score 19-18). The next two matches were decided by TKO, the third place match went to Eldrige by default, Soucy having injured his Achile’s tendon while Pat Laplante quit after table tennis due to cramps in his calf muscle. So Easterbrook remains on top. His improvment in table table was noticable against Laplante when he scored 14 where he usually scores 5. A squash match for beers afterwards against Rob Walsh, showed him that squash is still to be mastered (21-3 Walsh…) Next event will be on November first.
